I have been in a bit of a smoothie rut, and when I saw your avocado smoothie yesterday I was pretty excited. I then saw your link back to this post. I made this one at breakfast time this morning, and my boyfriend said it was one of the best smoothies he'd ever had! It was amazing and I have been on the fence about the whole green smoothie. Delicious! I can't wait to try the avocado one as well.

Oh my goodness, Max! No veggies? I can hardly believe it! So glad to hear that you've turned the corner now and are enjoying your greens (spinach and broccoli of all things too!) You will certainly feel better. Eating them in a cold and delicious sweet smoothie is step one, cooking them will have to be step two. Let me know how you're doing in a couple months...I'll be curious to know :)

Good comments here!

I have hated vegetables since I was a baby. The only ones to this day that I like are corn are peas... and I say "like" very generously. Having taken a multivitamin daily for years, I started researching other ways to get nutrients from sources other than a tiny pill that may or may not count for much, and by having to force down green leafy veggies.

I didn't even know what spinach looked like at the store when I decided to try making a green smoothie. I had to read all the labels on the produce to know what I was even picking up, but I came home with spinach, broccoli, carrots, granny smith apples, bananas, strawberries, and mandarins. That was 2 weeks ago and having 2x green smoothies daily I've never felt better about what I'm eating and better feeling overall.

My favorite so far:
- a handful of spinach
- 1-2 cut apples (granny smiths give it a sour kick that I like better than regular red apples)
- 1 sliced banana
- 2-3 chopped baby carrots
- 1-2 little pieces of broccoli (too much here makes a funky texture)
- 1-2 mandarin oranges
- a spoonful of ground flaxseed
- a little cold water
- 4-5 ice cubes (found to be the most important ingredient for a cold refreshing mix)

It comes out as a crazy green color, but it's delicious! Tastes like apple/banana/orange and nothing more, and it beats any Jamba Juice or whatever $8 garbage. I'm obsessed with these now, mixing up berries to sub things so I don't get sick of one thing or another. Glad I found your site, never thought of parsley but will try it out tonight! Thanks!

i think my mouth fell open when i saw the ingredient list. it's something new all right! although if it is refreshing and beats the heat, it's cool in my books (no pun intended. it is 30C today but i dont believe it. feels like 40C and something at the weather station is broken)

thanks for this recipe! i've been loving a green smoothie recipe of my own lately. I've not tried ginger, but the honey I add to mine seems to take the green-y bite out of the spinach.

and i've not thought to try parsley---it will be next!

maybe elevator co-worker guy will read your blog, try the recipe and become a believer.

i have been a green smoothie addict for about 3 years now! i substitute banana and water for any type of milk. that way the smoothie remains vegan and phyto-estrogen free! but still creamy! p.s. ignore everyone's comments about having watched too much "popeye the sailorman" when you were younger, they have no idea what they are missing! yummy!
